Kupang - West Timor

Kupang
is the capital city of NTT or East Nusa Tenggara province, which comprises
3 major Islands: Flores, Sumba and Timor (West part) as well as hundreds
of small islands.
Timor Island is rocky, steep and mountainous; most of the land is
covered by grasses and dry savanna. This condition is suitable for
Sandalwood trees, which caused this Island to be well known.
Interesting aspects of this island exquisite traditional "Ikat"
weaving, traditional elliptical grass roof houses, mixed tribes from
all over Nusa Tenggara Islands (Savunese, Sumbanese, Bimanese, Florenese
etc.) and others races (Chinese, Arabs, Makasarese, Bugines etc.)
and unique music instrument of the Rottenness called "Sasando"
made from lontar leaves.

SIGHT-SEEING - Island Excursions

Tunas - TIMOR/01. KUPANG CITY SIGHT-SEEING TOURS
Half-day tour visiting Kupang Museum, with its collection of fossils,
anthropological artifacts, "Ikat" weavings textile, other
items that reflect East Nusa Tenggara's different ethnic groups. Next,
proceed to the market to see local people buying and selling their
daily needs, then on to Lesiana beach to see the traditional process
of making sugar palm. Return to hotel.

Tunas - TIMOR/02. FULLDAY "SANDALWOOD TO WEAVING" TOURS
Full day tour to visit Osmo village with its traditional weaving workshop.
Next, proceed to Bakunase to observe the only Sandalwood oil factory
in the Country. Then, drive up to Baun - the center of Timorese typical
villages (25 km to the South) through panoramic landscape. Lunch boxes
will be provided. On to Oebelo, a Rottenness village famous for its
unique music instruments called "Sasando". Return to hotel.

Tunas - TIMOR/03. FULLDAY SOE VILLAGE AND NATURE TOUR
Drive to Soe, a distance of 110 km for 3 hours through beautiful panoramas
of rice fields, farms, jungles and savanna. Stops will be made for
taking pictures and local happenings. Upon arrival at Soe visit several
villages in order to learn about local culture and beliefs. Lunch
will be served at a local restaurant in Soe. Return to Kupang with
stops at Oebelo, a Roteness village famous for its unique music instrument
called "Sasando", made from "lontar" palm leaves,
and Tarus village to observe the process of making "laru"
- local liquor. Return to hotel.
