Flores ist the largest island in the eastern of Nusa Tenggara chain,received its present name in the year of 1512 from passing Portuguese explorers who called it `` cabo das flores ``( cape of flowers ) and before this island called as `` the stone island `` Among others ancient tradition states which ist survived called “ nitu “ or ancestral spirits reside in trees , stones , rivers and mountain. These spirits once were and perhaps still propitiated with offerings towards of illness and ancourage bountifull harvests . The `` nitu `` employ snakes to warn their descendants of impending danger and pythons were once worshipped on Flores, giving the island its former name “ snake island”. The most magnificent site to be visited ist the Kelimutu – three colored lakes of Kelimutu volcano, traditional hand woven textile at Maumere,Ende,Bajawa, Ruteng and also the traditional Megalithic village of Bena and Ngada.
