Surabaya - East Java

Surabaya  is the second largest city after Jakarta and is the largest and most important seaport in the Archipelago and well known as the City  of Heroes. Over the centuries it has been a major trading post and its economic importance continues until today. Surabaya is interesting it its mélange of different cultural influences; the old city with Dutch colonial architecture, Chinatown and the Arab quarter. The harbour, tanjung Perak is indonesia's main naval base.

The most interesting areas of Surabaya are the old Arab and Chinese quarter at the northern end of the city,the holly graves of Sunan Ampel one of the``  nine saint `` who propagated Islam on the Island, the Surabaya Zoo home of many exotic species includes the Giant Lizzard of Komodo, Madura Island - famous with its `Karapan Sapi`` the exiting annual bullraces held every August or September, thence visiting the cool mountain resort of Tretes and Malang a relaxing town surrounded by stunning highland scenery includes the majestic Mount Semeru,and on to Mount Penanggungan the area littered with dozen of terraced sanctuaries,meditation grottoes,and sacred pools which consist at  about 81 sites includes the Candi Belahan bathing pools that is thought to be the burial site of the most powerfull King of Erlangga, thence visit Trowulan the capital of the ancient Majapahit Greatest Empire, the active Volcano of Mt Bromo - a cone inside the huge Tengger caldera to admire the spectaqular Sunrises from Penanjakan  peak, Baluran - the National Nature Reserve one of Indonesia`s Incredible Wildlife reserve, Kawah Ijen - the crater located on a plateau of  the Ijen highland is the largest crater lake in Java situated up to 2.300 meter above sea level.
