Ambon is the capital city - administrative and the
bussines centre of Maluku.
The name of Maluccas derived from the Arabic term means `` land of
the King`` applied originally only to a chain of five small islands
: Ternate, Tidore, Moti, Mare and Makian lying just off the west coast
of gigantic Island of Halmahera.
There
are hundreds of small islands at the mini archipelage and most of
whom engaged in tending and harvesting the world`s supply of prime
cloves, nutmegs and mace.
From 1995 to 1998 there was an annual sailing adventure race event
in order to celebrate the Indonesia Independence Anniversary, the
race is mostly adventurous which participated by around 25 yachts
started from Gove and finished in Saumlaki.
Starting July to October this race is held with starts from
Darwin to Saumlaki.
